Well I took the plunge and ordered my PRSAlpha 48x96 Machine now the wait begins.

I am located in Toronto and am familiar with BC Tool here. Anyone got a good place to get bits? Most of the posts are all in the States and would like to do business locally if possible but am not adverse to doing cross border business for the right place.

Having read many pages of this forum I want to say thanks to everyone that posted in the past as it made my decision to go with ShopBot much easier due to the community aspect of this forum.

I design and build technical and recording studio furniture. Being an audio engineer by trade I found this a niche that needed to be filled. Everything built is plywood based so the ShopBot is going to save me tons of time.

So hello to all and I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for reading!

Brock :)

Welcome aboard!

Sorry I can't help with bit sources but please be sure to post pics of your projects as you get up to speed. Sounds interesting.

Now go and download Vcarve pro from the Vectric site and start designing. the software is the same as Partworks.

Hi Brock,

I Can't help you with any Local Suppliers for bits, but after trying out a few of the Canadian suppliers, I've been happiest with Centurion Tools in the States. Pricing is good, quality is great and there is not duty because they make their tools in the US. Just my 2 cents and Welcome to the community!

Just a few days ago someone posted about Niagra Cutters. I thought I would give them a try and went to the web to find them. It turns out that Amazon stocks a whole lot of them and if you order fifty bucks worth will ship them for free.

I did, they did, and the cutters are quite good.

Be aware of the fact that Amazon checks the cookies in your computer when offering you a price. If you have been shopping for the same item in the very recent past your price will be lower!!!

Hey Brock. First welcome to the forum and congrats on your purchase. Get prepared to drive yourself nuts thinking of all the things your new machine can do that have taken allot of jigs and time on the past. As far as bits go I use BC Saw & Tool for all my Onsrud bits as they are quick at getting them and their prices seem good as well. For cutting sheet goods I use mostly 1/4" endmill bits. The biggest reason is they cut the plywood and melamine great and I have easy supply of them where I live. I am approx. 2 hours east of Toronto. I buy 10 at a time and they are only $8 each. Once they are dull or I hit a screw with them I toss them out. I have tried up spiral and down spiral bits that come from onsrud but they are not stocked local to me so I don't use them much.
You can email me anytime if you have questions about anything. I use aspire for design and love it. :)

Thanks for the info guys and thanks for the kind offer glenner. I am sure I will be in touch one day.

Would be kinda cool to do a camp shopbot sometime.

Best,

Brock
