I use the original PRSalpha 96 bought in 02. Are you able to order an updated version of the control box(in 09 remodle it seems smaller and has vent holes)? Is there any issues with this? Same sorts of connetions and whatnot?

As long as you have not been overheating you should be OK as is. The earliest ones had a bit of a problem that way and the first fix was larger heat sinks. Then the design of the container was refined but the insides were pretty much the same. The new controllers are more robust and if you happen to blow yours up it makes sense to upgrade but as long as they are running OK there is no pressing reason to upgrade.
