When the video first started i thought "thats just a crappy little stool" but when he showed how to make it, this would be a neat little cnc project that we could make easily. He has no wriiten plans but explains it easily enough for even most of you guys to be able to follow....:eek:

See these plans from Lee Valley for a larger version.

When I taught woodworking student would build these to demonstrate dimenssioning stock and layout.

I have made quite a few of those from plywood. I looked around and found my PartWorks files from 2008.
I keep a couple of these around in the shop to sit on during long operations, and also use them for camping. I saw the design and "improved" on it with the "S" cut to force the two sides into automatic alignment when I am sitting on it. The S cut is a big improvement, and trivial to cut on the bot.
The design calls for several dowel rods, pretty much like the video explains. I also pocketed drill holes to screw the foot rests on, and the seat halves.
My design went through several versions, with the last one having "tight" fit on one side of the dowells, and loose fit on the other side. The last ones I made were trivial to unfold and set up. In the video his are so stiff he needs a lot of force. Thought I would pass along this early shopbot project of mine.
With the usual disclaimer.. no warranty.

It is kind of you to share that file Dana, but do you happen to have a dxf or eps of it?

Dana,
Thanks for sharing! I like the thought that went into the design changes - they make a lot of sense.

Donn I designed it in PW, (which is why I drew the profile of the assembled leg positions) so I dont have a DXF. I suppose you could use PW and export the DXF.
The toolpaths were set up for 3/4" ply. If you use something else make the necessary adjustments.
The mounting holes in the design were for 1/4" bolts to extend to the aluminum slab tapped holes on my BT-32. That also accounts for the design size. I can cut up a standard peice of plywood into 5 36x24 source boards and get 5 stools from that. With a gantry system and re-organizing the cuts, you may get 6 or more by better using the material.

Hi Dana,
Thanks for making the files available. I have downloaded them and intend to cut some for myself.
Thanks again,
Roger.

Thanks anyway Dana. I'm running g-code with no access to shopbot code. Haven't run sb code in years. Anybody out there able to translate?

Neat little stool... like many woodworkers I end up with tons of short pieces of oak, cherry etc that collect dust till they accumulate too many and I give them away for firewood. This little stool doesn't use long pieces, so I could maybe turn those cut-offs into something usefull. Thanks!

That's one hot stool! :D
I wonder how well it would translate into a picnic table sans the bench seats...

Brady, Good idea on the picnic table!!! If someone wants to make a file, I’ll cut it and post pictures of the results. Just a thought.

There is a new stool posted up here;

Can anyone help me convert it to a DXF?
Thanks
