Hello, I am looking for advise about how to cut my losses on a purchase of Mastercam, and not testamonials about Vectric's Aspire. I plan to buy Aspire V3.

My situation is that in 2001 I took a class in Mastercam 9 (long obsolete now) at my community college. Then in 2003 I saw sales demos of Mastercam Art and Artcam. (There was no Vectric then. :() I liked Mastercam better, so I spent $10,000 to buy a full seat of Mastercam Router, with Solids Modeling and their Art package. I had gotten advise to buy the CNC software before the CNC router, so I would know how to use it by the time I bought a CNC router.

Things got bad at work, and I suddenly I had no time to learn my software. It just sat. But I have been paying annual maintanance on Mastercam ever since. The company I worked for for 27 years got bought by GE, and they closed us and I lost my job. So, in late 2009, I purchased a used PRTalpha 60 x 144. I have been setting up my shop, and now have to finish the wiring of my Shopbot.

This brings my Mastercam mistake to the front. Based upon the Mastercam forum and my salesman, NO ONE uses Mastecam for ART, even though it is king of the CNC market place for regular CNC machining. But Vectric is widely used for the art types of applications I want, and it does what I want, without the huge annual maintanance fees, I will switch to Vectric.

My Mastercam agreement says I can't sell my software. Before I go and throw myself on the mercy of my "reseller", has anyone ever heard of a deal being made by someone getting out from under Mastercam to switch to Vectric? If someone has experience, this could help me greatly before I discuss this with my reseller. And, is there any conceivable reason for me to keep my seat of Mastercam such that I would be stupid to get rid of it at a huge loss??????

I feel so stupid for spending all that money on Mastercam!!! :( However advise is needed more than sympathy. Thank you, Chuck
