Is anyone using Windows 7 on their PC? My laptop died so in replacing it I don't have much of a choice on OS other then Windows 7. Partswork is very unstable, I loose part of drawing, can't get into node mode intermittently. Even if I have saved the drawing, it still looses part of it even if its only a couple of lines. I've haven't been able to get anything done.

I lost my lap top a few weeks ago it caught a virus. I use it for design and drawing. My new lap top is working fine on the latest version of Aspire running 7. I run the SB control with an old XP machine.

I am using VCPro 6 on a Win7 laptop. VCPro has never worked better.

How much RAM on your machine?

I am running a Win 7 computer with Aspire, Partworks, and Partworks 3D and I have never seen a PC run better. Everything runs great. Of course it is stripped to a Bare Bones config with the info recommended here about http://www.blackviper.com/category/guides/windows-7/

Maybe go thru that list and get rid of stuff you don't need.

Gary,
Have you updated your copy of VCPro 6? In the drawing department, I can't get into edit node. It will loose part of the drawing. Even if you save the drawing and reopen it still looses parts of the drawing, it maybe only a couple on lines.

Thanks,
Mark

Gary,

I'm afraid I have to echo the sentiment so far. I use partworks 2.5 on two different win7 comps, and have yet to have a problem.

I would first do a full diagnostic of your comp. Then try re-installing partworks.

good luck
Chris

Yes, VCPro is updated. Also, I installed PWks and SB3 on a Win7 laptop for a new user as a control computer last week. No known issues so far.

I also use Black Vipers "Tweaked" column settings as a guideline. All software, features, updates, etc are removed from the machine. I may look into the registry cleaner that David has rec'd for the future.

Try the remove, clean and reinstall of PWks.

Is it really failing to go into node edit / lose lines or does it just appear not to?

In the early days of Win 7 I had some issues with graphics drivers and I had some issues with VCarve/PartWorks where guide lines and some vectors either vanished or refused to go away.

Updating the graphics driver resolved that but VCarve was always working correctly it was just that I couldn't see it doing it!

I use windows 7 with aspire and also have had no issues and runs great. I also am running win7 on the bot and works great. Sounds like a bad install or possibly a ram issue?? Did you try running it in "compatability mode" to see if it works any better? Do other programs have issues or just the partworks?

One other thing is that I turn off all firewalls and antivirus when installing software. It can cause issues sometimes if they are left on. Once you install software turn back on. Keep us posted on your progress or solution as alot of botters will be changing to win7 in the near future.

Gary,
If your running both, PW and VCP6, does one work better then the other.

Glen,
I'm running 4gb of ram, so that shouldn't be an issue. On my Toshiba that died (thanks to my Golden) only had 2gb. You mention compatibility mode, thats a new one, where do I find it.

The new laptop has one of the multi function trackpads, I'm starting to think thats the problem.

Now to look into Black Viper.

Thanks all

If you right click over the program icon it will pop up a window and you can click properties. It should then give you choice to run in XP compatability mode. Since others including myself are running it on win7 I would expect something must have happened during install or your pc is having issues. Have your tried reinstalling it?

Sometimes a dying hardware component can manifest itself as seeming-to-be-software problems.

I've knocked myself out trying software solutions
only to discover it was really a dying RAM-chip or something hardware
and there was nothing wrong with any of the software, at all!

turn off UAC and then DEP fo that program. Also, try running as administrator.

If you don't know how to do that PM me and I'll giv you some pointers.

I find DEP will often stomp all over a progrm that may have a time sensitive nature like getting data to the video etc...

I am assuming you've tried the other good suggestions in this thread including video fixes which was my first thought.

After reading the recommendations and trying different setting, things have been better. I added the external trackball mouse. I ran my bot for 45 minuets or so, it seems ok. I did upgrade my Part Works to the latest version. The problem still I'm having now is, using the undo and redo arrows. Using them I permanently loose whatever part of the drawing I was working on.

I only have VCPro. PWKs is the same program, less postP's for machines other than ShopBot. Many times a new versions enhancements require an update of the computers video card. Make sure that you go to your card mfgr's site and update the drivers/software for your card.
