I am trying to carve a name into a 4x4 post and need to change my safe Z setting. After i run the z zero file the Z axis wants to default to 1.0" above the work piece and i only have about .25" to work with. How do i make the necessary changes to the settings to make this work? I need to get this carved today:eek: and i'm completely stumped. Thanks in advance.

Type "VC" look for Safe Z Pull-Up. Be aware, that at the end of a file, a jog home will be the same height and that the path is clear of clamps etc.

Try changing the my variables file. You can find it under C:sbparts

Ken beat me to it. Apparently the setting under VC doesn't change the "my_variables.sbc" file. Like Ken stated, open that file and change the "&my_ZzeroSafeZ=" line.

I think you also have to set up your safe Z in your part file also

So. Does doing that makimise the safe Z or is that only for JH?
I've changed the Safe Z in Artcam and it works fine.

Changing the safe z in PartWorks, Aspire, VCP, ArtCam, is only for during the actual cutting of the file (preparatory jogs/moves, between cuts, and finished height). If the end of the file has a JH, it will utilize the safe z setting in your my_variables.sbc file. A JH also calls up the safe z setting in the software. It would also have no effect on the running of the zzero routine.

I use Aspire & Partworks I change the safe Z in there when I make a file. If you made the drawing in one of those you could go in and edit the setup but you will have to make the tool paths again for it to work.
