I have a prt indexer. My shopbot is a prt upgraded to 4g board.
My indexer from time to time will just stop during job but software will show it running. I have slowed speed down and fixed it only to have it come back.
I have checked to make sure I don't have the stock to tight and no bolts are hitting. I took stock out and ran indexer with only chuck on it. I can hold the chuck in my hand and with out much presser stop the indexer. It will make grinding noise. Is it bad indexer motor or 4g board.

Michael,
Try posting it under the Indexer Section down further on the forum and you'll likely get a response. I'm no indexer whiz but I recall reading on other posts some time back that the Shopbot indexer program only allows X,XXX degrees of rotation - meaning only a max number of rotations when being used like a lathe. It's why I backed off buying an indexer back then. This "may" still be the case. Best get advise from those more knowledgable though.

it is the gears in your indexer. You should not be able to stop a indexer with your hand. And the fact that you hear grinding noise is an indication it is probably the gearing in the indexer motor. Can you post a picture of your indexer or the model number?

Here is a pic. Also when the indexer isn't moving you can't turn it.
Thanks for any help.

Well after much testing I have new stepper motor on the way.
Looks like you were right Jack.
Thanks to Frank from Shopbot for all his help.

Gerald I know alot of people are scared of the indexer for lathe work but I have done hundreds of turnings with it with much luck.

Thanks again

Mike,
If you have done hundreds of turnings with your indexer you need to start posting some of your projects:D
I would definitely like to see some of your stuff!
