Indexer With 7.2/1 Motor Suggestions

I have an extra 7.2/1 Ratio motor i'm planning on using for an indexer. With the gear ratio, can i drive the lathe with a direct coupling from the motor shaft to the headstock? The lathe i'll be using is a used harbor freight model i picked up for next to nothing and i wont be using the drive motor for it, just the head and tail stock and i'll be making an extended bed for it. Considering the fact that i have more then enough clearance along the Y axis of the machine to get the 48" length i want. The SB indexers do the same with the direct drive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's just like you said. The ShopBot indexers are built with a direct drive and should be just fine.
