I am planning to do a plaque for my Granddaughter that will have all of the 50 state quarters in it. I would like to organize them around a 3D carving of the obverse of a quarter that would be 3 to 4 inches in diameter.

Where would be a good place to get the 3d cutfile? I have looked on line and found one outfit that had one for sale at a really outrageous price.

Could this be an illegal thing to do??? I have read where quarters actually cost more to produce than they are worth, and so I can't believe that anyone would forge them.

Have Brady scan one for you.
from memory it's ok to do providing the reproduction is not the same size
google it and you will get the info

I have also wanted a scan of a coin for some time. I wonder if there would be any issues around several of us contributing to the cost of the scan by Brady so we could each have our own copy.

Would anyone else be interested?

What do you think Brady?

Brady actually did one for a client several years ago - maybe he still has the file, to save him some time.

I also have a heightmap tif of a quarter that works pretty well, simply converting it to a component. It is only the center, so the rim would still have to be modeled...

Was it intentional that the E PLURIBUS was spelled incorrectly on that image Ron?
If the text was manually entered, someone forgot the I.
If that was a scan of a coin, I think it's a fake...!

Ha! Good catch - I never noticed that pluribus was misspelled! The image was from a quarter modeled in Maya, if I remember correctly...

It doesn't have nearly the detail of a good scan, either.

I have also been looking for a 3D file of a quarter, if any one finds one would you be willing to share it with me. Thanks.

I'm confused. Why are so many people interested in 2-bits when it's only worth a nickel?

FYI - I no longer scan coins. I have several reasons for this.

Thanks for considering my services, though...
