I am looking to do some updates to my machine before I list it. It will soon be time to upgrade to an alpha machine. But, before I can list it, I want to make sure everything is good to go. I believe I need new motors on my X axis.

I replaced my pinion gears today thinking that would get rid of a "rattle" sound in one of my X axis motors. Unfortunately, I still have a lot of chattering movement and sound from that one motor.(all electrical connections are in good condition)

Could anyone give me advice on which motors to go to. I can not find anything on Oriental's site that match what I have.

I will call SB tomorrow too. However, I know there is a giant pool of knowledge here as well.

Here are my specs:

I have a PRT Standard V4G (Upgraded June 2011)
Current Motors: Vexta A6497-9412KTG | 2 Phase 0.5 Degree Step
Software: Version 3.6.32
Control Box Firmware:202
25 tooth pinions
Unit Values: X=-1833.4650

Thanks for the help!:)

The motors you have are custom made by Oriental for SB. To get the same motor you need to buy it from them. Considering your plans I would do that as any other option will cost much more $ and work.

I might tend to suspect the driver, rather than the motor...

Ron... Is there a way to test the driver? or is that a SB call to Frank?

try driving other motors with the suspected bad driver by switching cables

Rick...
Note what speeds the noise is most prominent.
To Swap:
If X axis, swap cables 1 & 2.
IF Y swap with z (channels 3 & 4)
Change channel assignments

If noise stays in same place... its the motor
If noise moves...the driver

Gary,...Thanks for the info... I will try all of this today before calling SB.

By the way... I helped set up the ships wheels show at Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio yesterday. I will be receiving HD video and professional pictures that I will forward to you as soon as I get them.

I wanted to let everyone that my motors were in fact fine. And, as usual, it was "operator error!":(

I simply had old worn out pinion gears together with the fact that I had too much tension on my springs. (old PRT X carriage)

With my gears meshed perfectly and the proper tension, I was cruisin' along with much better edge quality. Not to mention all that goofy noise was gone!:)

Thanks for everyones input. It helped me narrow it right back to me.
