I had version 3.6.26? installed and running fine. I let the tool set for about a month never starting the software but only doing XP updates. Today I tried to start the sb3 software and I get an error on start up stating that "ShopBot Workshop Ver 3xx has encountered problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Tell Microsoft about this problem?" So I thought that this "old 3.6.26" software is not compatible with the new Microsoft updates so I downloaded and installed 3.6.40. Same problem. Any ideas?

Did you have the restore feature on. You can go back to a date that it did work if you did

Most likely you have broken it with one of the updates. Look at your update history and see if you applied a Microsoft framework update that may be your problem. Disable it and try again.

I thought the ShopBot executable used the MFC C++ classes - not the .NET framework. I'd try simply uninstalling an re-installing (maybe the latest version) and trying again...
Darn - now I'll have to go look!

In order to update the OS, you would have to hook to the internet.
Why in the world would you want to hook a control computer to the internet? I wont even activate Windows on the net, I use the phone.

Todd... As Gary mentioned, you do not want your control computer hooked to the internet.
I had some communication errors in the past and Gary helped me to fix these issues.
Here is a link to that thread where I posted what I had done to not only fix the issue but it improved my transmission efficiency rate.

Gary is right! My only concern was if you download and update it needed to be removed.

The bulk of the Shopbot Control Software is written in Visual Basic 6 and a couple of other VB based programs I own started misbehaving after the last XP update.

Adrian,
You are correct, of course - I'm not sure why I thought it was C++...
A couple of things come to mind. The updates often add a lot of data to the system drive. They also often add operating overhead - more in memory. The symptoms you are experiencing could be cause by a shortage of resources. Either disk space or memory. I'd check free disk space, memory and pagefile usage.
Also, did all of the updates complete successfully?
The only issue I've seen with updates killing VB6 apps were on 64 bit machines, usually Windows 7, where Microsoft introduced breaking changes in the ADO library...
Hope this is of some help.

So I have tracked it down to an update. I went back to a previous restore point but that did not work. I had to do an OS repair. The Shopbot software then started working. I then started doing OS updates and got through XP SP3 update and it was still working. I then did the last 57 security updates and then the SB software started failing again just like before. I did a restore back before the 57 security updates and it works again. Now I just have to figure out which ones are causing the problems.
Thanks for all of the input.

Is this computer hooked to the internet. If not why do you need the OS upgrades. My control computer is running XP sp3 the way it came no upgrades but all I have on it is Shopbot software and Aspire both were oladed with a thumb drive. No problems at all.
