I welcome anyone's input,i have a 3axis machine and i mounted a rockwell lathe on the front end of the cnc table and raised the router to match ,i'm in the process right now of trying to fit the stepper at the front through an aluminum plate.
I just received the 1200oz stepper and a gecko drive for the 4th axis .
If anyone has any suggestions or questions let me know (tried to add photos but.....

stan go to www.xat.com (http://www.xat.com) download jpeg optimizer it will allow you to lower the kilobyte size of the pictures to below 50k for placement here. They must be no bigger then 640x480 also.

stan is this your setup? If you look at this thread it might help with some of your adaptation of your lathe to your setup.

Um, it might go faster and be easier on your arm if you turn the lathe on.

good stuff stan. Where is your stepper mounted in relation to the belt drive you have. Also wouldn't it have been better to mount it as a direct drive?

the stepper is mounted 17 inches below the lathe and it cannot be direct ,it has to have some reduction so mine is 3:1 the shopbot assembly is geared thats he other method, probably easier.
Also mine will end up being chain driven

this shows the pulley arrangement which is temp as its not right to have a pulley on a threaded outboard shaft,i have a sprocket arrangement being milled out which will fi the lathe better

but this has worked well ,i am quite pleased with the results
