Hey guys
I'm working on a classical/greek status from HDU and i'm thinking about the best way to finish it. I interested in a material that I could both spray on to create a very thin layer, and also patch it I need to do some extra detailing by hand.
I think that a plaster like or marble finish will be the best as far as the look.
Any recommendation on a product that can deliver that?
Thanks!

Water based and you only mix what you need.

gesso and faux marble are good ideas, but take some experience. How about not a faux marble? Consider brushing on shellac with steel powder in suspension. The steel on the outer surface will rust. Any luster provided by the shellac will be translucent. You might even consider a grained or striated undercoat. Play around with it, before risking your piece.

You could try durabond and spray it with a drywall texture gun using compressed air. Found @ the big box stores. It is available in 20-120 min. It drys super hard, very little shrinkage, bonds well to most surfaces, sandable and most likely it can be carved. I bag $10.00. my $.2

FSC88WB from Coastal Enterprises. It is made for priming HDU.
You should also check out www.SculptNouveau.com for metallic water based finishes and patinas. They are cheap & amazing.
