I have an immediate need for "traditional Christmas toy soldier" vectors. you know .. the ones with the colonial era British style uniforms. But "not the scary nut-cracker guy" . My customer says "not flat" so I'll need to find a shallow 3d file or do a layered build up. I'm batting 0% at the traditional vector sites, If you have something or can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I have one possibility from istockphoto.com but am hoping to find something that was developed with making a large rendition in wood in mind.

here is one that costs $3.00
http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/maya-toy-soldier/511508

here is a free one
http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/free-toy-soldier-3d-model/222092

do a search for "free 3d objects" and get to the sites like turbosquid and you should see several.

google is your friend:D

Interesting... I'm an accomplished Google searcher... I was even on Turbosquid's site and I missed the $3.00 one. Sometimes it's information overload!

I down loaded the $3.00 one and am disappointed... very Corse, but what did I expect for $3.00!

Still looking.

steve,
i have run into the same issue. I am not sure why some people post files that are rough. The idea i think is that it makes them smaller in size and in an application where say it is an object in a scene and relatively small it isn't an issue.

But for our applications we want to use that object and its symetry for a carving and when you blow these objects up you often will see they are missing polygons and you see holes in the object often accounting for the "bizarro" texture of that object.

I had asked in this post:
http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13976
about a program (i thought) added polygons to an object. I thought it was polytrans but i think there was another program made by the same company (Okino?) that might have done that but i don't recall the name.
Maybe you can take the file into your program and do some smoothing or sculpting?

steve,
FYI
http://www.okino.com/default.htm

I tried to upload the dxf but I had issues so here is an eps file, see if this works for you. Its a 48 x 96 full sheet that I cut out of 1/2 inch. There is a left and a right. I v carved one side without cutting them out, then I flipped the sheet and v carved the other side and then I cut them out. Russ

Thanks Russ:
they look good! I'm going to see if she would go for the Idea of some of the features, gloves, shoes, moustache, brass etc being a second layer of wood. That would mane it "not flat"
