2001 PRT 48x96 all original

In the middle of a project my Z started getting deeper. I thought I was loosing steps and checked everything for binding etc. I then air cut and checked my Z zero it was right on.

I then reset zero to the material ( just foam thankfully ) loaded the file
reached over to turn on the router ... and it moved down almost 0.15 of an inch.

I know I am a big guy ,but my hands are not that heavy !

anyway i turned everything off to include the controller. Restarted and still did not have Lock.

I turned everything off again. at the controller i connected the Z motor to the y-axis started it up and it was locked . I normalized the system and started it up and the Z was locked up like it should be.

I cut the job all went well, I then set up a second job and when I reached over to turn on the router no lock ... I turned controller off then on and it was locked. I cut the second job 45 minutes all went well.

So I have intermittent problem , that I really would like isolated before it really causes me a big headache .

So anyone have ideas for me on what to check out :) thanks for your time

Check that your wiring is sound - especially make sure - WITH THE CONTROL BOX OFF - that the each wire in the 4-wire gray Wago connectors is well seated on both ends. If one wire is off, you can have a condition where only 1 of the stepper coils is energized, resulting in 1/2 the output torque. I just diagnosed & repaired this exact condition on a PRT last Friday.

Also, there is a chance that your motor driver is tired or on it's way out. You can, by process of elimination plug the Z axis into the Acc driver and then configure Channel 5 to become the Z axis in SB3.

Thanks Brady,

That's exactly what I wanted to know, I will look up how to convert CH5 to Z axis, will recheck the connections also. Ran a simple sign yesterday and it worked fine.

thanks again

Just type VI into SB3 and re-assign channel 5 from B to Z
