Nice job! I've been thinking about modifying a shelf unit I found on GrabCad, so it slots together.

Tom: Looks good. With the endmatched grain in the desktop maybe you want to think about Stain and clearcoat.

Ron: Having a little trouble drawing a straight line?:D

Ron,
That bookshelf, what format is it? I looked at some of the free models there and i don't recognize the format. Do you have to have GrabCad to use the models?

Hi Jack,

I downloaded the model as a SolidWorks assembly, then imported it into Alibre. Makes it nice, as I can see how it all fits, and check for proper fit and any interferences before I cut it. From there I can easily generate the dxf files to import into Aspire.

GrabCad is just the website. They have model available in many formats, including SketchUp.

A question for Tom,

I was wondering if you had received permission from Brock Brandenberg (listed as the “…creator of the patented designs…”) to modify the desk and hutch, or whether you have copied the PDF assembly instructions (provided to purchasers of his products), and imported into your CAM software for the modification.

Thanks,

Doug

Doug:

It's my understanding that as long as the "copy" is for yourself and no profit is being made, it's no harm/no foul.

Steve,

It seems that Tom’s reply was completely non-verbal. I do appreciate your reply, yet I think that it is utterly false. My understanding is that concerning copyrighted and patented material “no harm/no foul” would actually be phrased as piracy.

Happy New Year!

Doug
