Made this sign for the local garage, I did the lettering on the bot and the rest with my carving chainsaw and a little die grinder work.
I used some mica powders for highlights in the sun.
The wood is hemlock that I milled last year.
Installing it next week.

I like it! you are an artist with a deadly weapon!:D
It's amazing that you have enough control of the chainsaw to make the details you do..good job

Bob, the sign is 48x96 32 sq ft thats the largest our code allows.
Mica powders are natural minerals used a lot in cosmetics they are great for faux gold leaf I but mine in bulk from http://www.coastalscents.com/
Mica powders will not fade over time

Brian,
That's a great job on the sign. Thank you for the link to the Mica powders. I'm going to try those sometime - I really like the effect!

I like your choice of color. Nice work.
I am curious as to what techniques you used to apply the mica powders.

Michael I applied them on this job with a sort of dry brush technique lightly wetting the brush with clear acrylic then dipping the brush in the powder.
After it was all done a topcoat of clear acrylic sealed it all in.
Sometimes depending on the project I may mix it in my clear coat and spray it there are many mica colors to choose from.
