We usually use Acrylic for exterior flat letters. I see many shop are using PVC, MDF etc... I have two 48x96" with a raised border and raised copy (.50") that I need to paint. Mounting to Alumalite, mounting in-between poles. what are you folks using for this?

thanks

Devin,

Your question is a little wide open. I'll take a stab at it.

Without knowing the thickness of your letters, it's hard to be very firm on an answer. I like DiBond for thin letters. PVC, is also good with thickness of 1/2" and thicker. Now days I'm not fond of acrylic for much of anything.

I'd bet you'd get lots of suggestions if there was layout of the sign. It's easy to post a jpg of your drawing.

Joe, thank you for the advice. The customer has an existing logo that we want to add some dimension to. I want to raise the "Eye", "Maine Optometry" and the border and leave the rest in vinyls. We usually use acrylic, but I am looking for different options. I looked @ using Azek but painting it black was an issue. I wish I knew more about using PVC, I plan on learning more about that @ Sign Camp in June. Until then, looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Thanks in Advance.

Thanks for posting the pix.

Are you set on the panel shape? The copy doesn't fit the shape very well. There are conflicting area's.

How is this panel to be supported.

I had to stay with their branding. I am using (3) 6x6 poles... for visibility we are doing two single faced signs in a "V" shape.

Why is painting the Azek a problem? Use 1/2", scuff the surface and rout it. Pin mount the backs and spray it with a quality enamel; you'll probably need a couple of coats to fill the sides.

Use auto body glase to coat the sides. It is easy to sand and seals the sides so you get a nice finish.

Rick, Azek says painting there material black will ruin the letters over a short period of time. Not knowing PVC I do not know if this will be true on 6" letters vs. wrapping a column with it. I think I will just stick to .50" Cyro.

I would just use HDU - 20# or 30# and not have to worry about sealing or scuffing or anything - just paint and cash the check.
