Is the brown paint that is used for park signage a standard color that
is available. The color seems to be the same across the country.
Its called State Park Brown. just kidding . i never thought about them all being the same color.

Two hundred and some odd pages and hasn't been updated since 1988... that's our government. And the appendix doesn't specifically spell out the formulation for the sign colors (RGB/CMYK percentages), just what the colors "do"... gotta love it.

Maybe that's why they all look the same.

Thanks for the info Steve. I found a lot of interesting info on the paint
the NBS led me to the MIL SPEC where I found a web site that sold MIL SPEC
paint, I figured that would be 200.00 a gal so I kept looking and found another site the spec it as a Benjamin Moore color of Tudor Brown.
I started out looking for State Park Brown and I wasn't that far off it is called
"HIGHWAY BROWN" by the Gov.

NPS Brown, NPS Charcoal, NPS Yorktown Green, and NPS Guam Gray. The same NPS colors are also available in Sherwin Williams Polane S-Plus
i have had the color chips for the national park system and they were polane colors.
you can call sherwin williams and ask about the polane brown that the national park system uses.
these were colors specified by nps when they first chose colors and they chose the colors from sherwin williams to be used on intepretive trail sign systems.
this is probably the same that the state uses but not sure.
for routed signs they may spec a different color and type since many now use color core standard colors.,
the nps would like everyone to do what they do but i have found states vary on the specs for their own uses.
