I'm making VCarved trail signs out of Trex. I'm looking for a recommendation for a suitable paint for the letters.

I've used sharpie permanate ink pens when v-carving on trex. This was a couple years ago and still looks good. I used different size tips.

Is this an exterior sign? Would a marker stand up against the weather?

These signs will be used outdoors.

I'd like to see this thread continued. I've often wondered about the use of the new "lifetime" decking materials and their use in the sign industry. Would like to take some time and experiment with machining, v-carving and paint possibilities.
Has anyone tried using this material for anything other than small signs?

I agree. In live in Arizona and many of my signs are subject to 120 degrees and lots of sun (355 days a year, ok so I am bragging). I too would like to know if trex will hold up.

This is a project we completed about two years ago at the High School where I teach construction technology. Wanting to encourage more students to recycle we received a grant to construct recycle bins. There are about eight recycle bins on campus. The containers are made from Trex bolted to two frames made from 3/16" x 1" x 1" angle iron welded together. At the start of the project I was just going to v-carve the recycle triangle onto the sides. Then for more student buy-in decided to come up with a recycle slogan to v-carve on the trex. One thing led to another and we used about the 50 best sayings. The drilling and v-carve paths were done on the Shopbot 6 at a time by two girls in the construction class. The students then used different size sharpies to color in the v-carving. (see picts.) Black and Blue seem to have faded less than red and green however the black was "Sharpie" brand and the other colors were a 'permanent marker' other than sharpie. The containers have held up well considering the campus environment. The custodians need to chain up garbage cans and these containers are so heavy that they stay where they have been placed.
