View Full Version : Surfacing Spoilboard - Acceptable tolerances?

I'm a new botter, and just finished surfacing my spoilboard. Using a 1.25" cutter @ 10% overlap, I found "ridges" on both the x-axis and y-axis travels. These were caused by an out of plumb condition of the spindle axis. After re-truing the spindle axis by adjusting gantry and spindle mount, (fore/aft and left/right), I've managed to reduce the ridges by about 75%, but they're still there.

What's considered an acceptable level of "out of plumb" or an acceptable level of imperfection in the spoilboard surface?

Thanks,
Jeff

If you're going for 'perfect' - then you should not be able to catch your fingernail on the ridges. You are always going to see lines no matter how close you get it...but you should not be catching your fingernail on the ridges.
