had a customer come to me someone told them sintra would work for their small outdoor signs. of course it's not the right material. I have not gotten a file yet but about 100 fit on a 4x8 sheet so they are not large.
right now they are using pine. they want something they can print on and the edge has a ogee or similar cut on it. Is there anything else besides wood to do this with?
they may not be fully exposed. I was thinking some Russian plywood well painted would work ok too.

PVC or Extira. Cost more than exterior ply but holds up better. Since the signs are small the sheet cost gets spread out pretty good. "May not" is customer language for "will, but I don't want you to go crazy with material cost".

Since you're going to paint something else anyway ... maybe Sintra will work. If 100 will fit on a sheet, they aren't likely to be big enough to sag and color fading isn't an issue if you paint them.

I was wondering since they are small. I want to find out how they are mounting them and what they look like. the routed edge makes for less choices.

I've been using PVC sheets for outdoor signs.
Can't beat it!
Carves great and paint well with exterior latex.

When you say "PVC"... exactly what do you include? Solid? foamed products like Sintra?

yes my question the difference in weight and cost is huge. a sheet of 3/4" solid pvc costs about 600.00 a sheet.

I use EPVC Trim board or exterior grade pvc. Up here 1" is about $300 a sheet. Couldn't tell you what 3/4" is off hand. My favorite is the Kleer brand. The other i can get around here is Royal and the last piece i bought of the board rather then sheet had voids in it.

Steve:
To learn about the PVC the sign makers mean when they talk about sheet PVC do a search for Komacel. It's nowhere near 600/sheet.

Yeah they rape us up here. Cost of shipping is the part of it and the rest is just greed. I do have a good plywood distributor local but it took a few years before i could buy direct. MDO good two sides .75" from them $60 a sheet. From the local lumber supplier $120.00 and they get it from the very supplier i do.

I won't claim to be an expert but several sign guys have spoken of not having the sun problems as long as they used the white PVC and let the color come from the coatings. I did a bunch of checking about this a while ago for a prospective project.

ok the customer came by and we are talking just a simple 11x3" no soliciting sign with a ogee edge.
they are fine with 3/4" pvc and painting it.

I have used white PVC painted or left unpainted.
Both have stood up to the elements very well.
Be sure to use exterior acyclic for painting
