This box is 2.75" deep and to keep it from folding up like a cheap suitcase wouldn't it be better to make it a 2 compartment box leaving the center in to try to keep it from warping or will that not help?

and i'm thinking .5" outer walls with a .5" bottom? .5" thick center divider?

Does the box have a purpose? Jewelry? Or just keepsakes. When you divide the interior you eliminate uses where the item is larger than the pocket... I like the .5 inch walls, I'm assuming this is the walnut part you talked about earlier. I think the bottom could easily go thinner, .375 or even .3". 2.75" is a deep box... If rings, earrings or small objects are likely occupants of this box I would go with a radius on the bottom to make it easier to slide something small across the bottom and up the wall to get it out.

My thoughts... SG

Thinking about your radius idea i have a "bowl cutting bit"? something i've never used but it is supposed to give you a radius bottom. I'll have to dig it out. How would you go about a radius edge?

I have a 1" ball end bit I have used for this purpose.. If your bowel bit will fit in the pockets It should work fine.

I don't know that I would use a bowel bit for anything. I purchased a dish bit, a flat end mill with a radius edge that would work well for hollowing a box

Here is a jewelry tray I made with a 1" ball end bit. The round depressions are for small pierced earrings. The large pocket step over was quite large... I think like 25%, the ridges are quite small at that size and sanded easily. I'm told by users of this style tray that the rounded bottoms are very much appreciated!
