I'm helping a shop teacher getting a PRT desktop Shopbot circa 2004 back in use. It hasn't been in use since I left 4 years ago. He is running Windows 98 and a DOS version of the SB control software. There are no USB ports on the computer.
When I run the software it searches for the Com port but doesn't find it. I've checked that the control box is on, the cable is properly plugged in at both ends. I went to the device manager, it says the Com port is fine.
I don't know what else to check. I'm hoping someone can suggest what to look for.

Thanks in advance,

Phil

I had a similar problem and ended up doing a factory reset by loading the factory default setting from a file under c:\program\shopbot\shopbot3\settings\ give it a try.

Make sure up upgrade the firmware once your talking.

Thanks, Ron. I'll see if that works.

I am also trying to bring back a PRT alpha of similar age and having the same problem. I will be following this post with interest. Please report if you find a fix! I will do the same. Thanks
