What bit should I use to engrave text on a 1.5" x 5" Engraver's Brass plate. And do you have a source for the bit pls.
It is a memorial plate to be used outdoors. It has two lines of text.
thanks, Pete

Head down to a tool and die shop that works with machinists. (or online of course) Get an engraving bit. Sort of half a cone flat on one side with a tiny (like .02 radius at the tip) go slow take very small passes, .01 per pass. use a little bit of tapping fluid on the surface of the plate.
I do it a lot.

Here's an example of one of the bits I use:
http://bitsbits.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_45&products_id=133
I usualy choose to have them ground double ended w/ a tip radius of .02 - .04
I run at the minimum speed on my router (so 10k, you can go slower if you have a spindle) run passes at .3 -.5 IPS w /pass depth at .01 or so.
