Greetings!

I'm a new and naive owner of a used ShopBot - new to the forum and this is my first post. Happy to join the community.

History: The table was built by the prior owner who used it to carve 3D wooden trim. His description is " 48" x 96" CNC router table, ShopBot 4G controller, 48V power supply, Geco 101 stepdrivers, Vexta 2 phase motors, 3 1/4 h Porter Cable router, limit switches on the X and Y. Z zeroing plate." Table is 8 or 9 years old, but with new rails, racks and pinions. The 4G controller and Geco drives are upgrades, or course. Software is running OpenSBP Version 3.6.44. All was working fine when he demonstrated it in his shop. Included was an old PC with the software installed, but no printed documentation.

Issue: After transporting the table, I've physically leveled and squared it. I've done some "air cuts" to test things out and, in so doing, ran into a error when the Y access went too far and hit a limit switch. In my attempts to cancel/correct the limit switch I've probably now changed the values in the original showbot.ini file. Now I can't do anything without the "LIMIT SWITCH HIT" error. When I hit "Resume" things go forward, but that doesn't seem like a good solution, long-term.
> What are the proper values for the VN and VU info sheets on this machine?
> Switch #4 shows a black dot with a thin, red vertical line. Is that a normal display?
> Do I need to do more grounding than what the 3 prong electrical plug provides from the socket in the wall? In reading here, it appears that the ShopBot controller can be very sensitive in this area.
> Are there some documents here in the forum you might recommend to me? I'd like to start from the beginning and learn this properly.

I'm at the disadvantage of not having built the machine, so the learning curve of the vocabulary and where things are on my particular machine is a steep one. At 58, I'm trying to start a new line of work. I see a long journey ahead. Thanks for your help!

Mike,
Just because you bought the machine "used" doesn't mean that you can't fully access Shopbot tech support! Give THEM a call and ask about your issues. At the same time you can "register" yourself as the new owner and help the folks in Durham know where another of their earlier machines is now living...

Thanks for the advice, Bill. Lots of companies don't want to talk to the second owners of their equipment. Nice to know that ShopBot does. I'll ask them.
