View Full Version : New Sign Forum
Woopeeeee We now have a Sign Forum dedicated to those of us who are in the business of making signs. http://www.3dsignforum.com/. Thanks to Jason and Melissa for taking the time to create a beautiful forum. They left the Indiana Workshop with the basic idea and before I knew it they had it all done.
I spoke to Robert today and he was also amazed. We now have a group of people who are interested in developing the necessary skills to convert their equipment into profit. Jody, Jamie, Jason, Melissa and myself have commited to posting about tools and techniques we use. I have invited a host of other artists to post their techniques. This will be an on going process and it will take time but all of feel this is the time to get it done. I am planning on having a blog page where we can list the answers to questions our Newbees keep asking. This will save lots of time. There will be other artists who post their favorite techniques. These will be available all the time. It could be quiet a collection over time. Melissa is encouraging me to make the video's on materials and techniques to be posted also.
We are all asking for your assistance and patience while we get up and going. Your idea's and thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks Joe for all you do. i am a thankful recipient of your contributions. i wish i had more time to contribute. I know you are busy too.
Dick,
You'd always be welcome to contribute on the new sign forum. You're like me, from the old school, and could help the newbees. After they come to the sign trade with little or no design or layout experience. They are a new animal needing some of the knowledge you have.
This forum is only about signs.

Joe
Count me in
I was discouraged about sign work then today 4 signs
The head ache I have is coming up with a tougher finish ,Forget foam in this climate .The problem its really damp with sideways rain .The moister seem to go below or in behind the paint maybe I can explain better with a picture
I used modern master which failed ,I would like to bring this topic up
Thanks
Kevin,
I received a post from Gary B, Rosenbleeth, and others asking if they could join the sign forum although they aren't in the sign business. I sent the moderator a note today asking him to change up the Masthead to include Carving. We need all the folks we can get. At this point it's the only active CNC sign forum that's not affiliated with a vendor.
I'm more than interested in your problems with weather. We'd all be further ahead if you'd show us the process and problems you've been having. So join up and lets jump in.

Thanks Joe!
Guys, please, don't even hesitate a little bit. We aren't the least bit prejudice. We may get bored with each other quickly. Remember the Atoll on Waterworld, please don't allow us to become like them by not joining in the fun!
There are no real requirements, but we do like to have fun.
Hope to see any and ALL fellow shopbotters on the forum soon. This invitation includes the amazing staff at Shopbot, we would love to see you all join as well...

Welcome Gene!
I'm pretty sure we have all been a student of yours at one time or another, right here at Shopbot!
:)
Greetings everyone,
3D Sign Forum; Here's how it all came about.
While at the Indiana Workshop, Melissa Jones, her husband Jason, Jamie Oxenham his wife Jody and myself were having a conversation about the need for a Router Sign Forum. The coffee break was extended and before we knew it the forum idea was founded. The concept was to assist router folks entering the sign trade. I had notice most of them knowing little about the business or techniques necessary to make a living. Within a few minutes Jason and Melissa jumped in and said "We want to do it" and we want to do it now. Since Jason was a media expert this was right down his alley. Then Jamie jumped in saying he'd do his part. I've been full invested for years so we were off and going. While in the airport coming home, I designed the Masthead and Logo. Jason was home putting together the forum matrix. The next day I sent him the logo. In a couple of days we had internet approval of the name and we were on the air. It all happened that fast.
From the start we've been growing faster than we ever expected. Premium sign artists have been joining. We now have them from Australia, England, & Europe.
We welcome everyone. No matter what software, or router you use. That's not what we're about. It learning how to use the equipment and put it to work. Please come join us.

Well put J!
It is something how it all came together. :)
the shopbot forum could never be replaced, as well as vectric, and all of the rest of the quality product centric forums. The 3D Sign Forum is a place where we can talk signs and is a supplement to places like talk shopbot. Especially when it comes to support for your machine.
Thanks Melissa,
I've seen so many people wanting to know the steps and process for making signs without a dedicated place to go. The purpose is welcome all software and equipment. As far as we are concerned none of that is important.
What's important is a place to show the work and discuss the methods used. Not to mention to have dedicated workshops.
Happy routing,
Joe Crumley
