Looking For 1/4" Downcut Endmills

I found 1/4" upcut two flute (RS602-2500) at Razor Sharp Grinding (http://www.razorsharpgrinding.com/Retail%20Catalog%20July%202011.pdf), along with some 1/4" ballnose (RS-602-2500BN). They're only about $10-12 each and I'm gonna try them.

I still can't source 1/4" downcut, I'm trying to replace onsrud 57-910 (http://www.onsrud.com/product/Item/m/itemDetail.html?itemId=57-910), or at least get ballpark with the length of cut.
I've had zero luck at ebay so far and I just need one or two to keep me going, I'm a bit-wrecker. :o

Can you guys suggest a place where I can get them at around 10 bucks or so? Of course cheaper would be better, but for all I do they'll keep me. I'd even pay more if you think it's worthwhile. I'm just trying to balance cost with my propensity for breaking them, until I smart enough that I'm not running them into the table and other stupid things I come up with.

Search the products, I believe someone is selling them for about $7 apiece, I bought about 6 others bought more. Its a seller on ebay and I believe they are outdated onsrud bits.

I'm pretty sure that guy is onsrudcutter2010 on ebay, but I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "search the products". I saw the thread where you guys snapped up all the bits, that's how I saved that guy's handle.
There was another guy on ebay, smpart, and he doesn't have anything right now.

Yup, that's onsrudcutter2010. He may just be out of downcuts. If they were a closeout, he might be out for good. I hope not!!! :)

It looks like it's tough to get a break on the downcuts, they all seem to be around the $20 range. I imagined it'd be easy to find a cheaper option, but I suppose it's more of a "specialty" tool than a 1/4" upcut. Stands to reason.

Due to convenience and my commitment to buy local, I've been filling my carbide drawers with Whiteside brand. Fantastic quality, at ~$16.00 a bit for .25 2 flute spirals, up or down cut. A buck is a buck, but remember performance. A $10 bit may not last as long, nor provide as fine a cut. An online auction price on a brand name is usually a one time offer.

My point: You've committed thousands of dollars to your machine and countless hours in designing and toolpathing - Why not drop a few more bucks on premium tooling and realize the full potential of what this investment can do? Find a reliable resource so you can acquire and replenish your tooling and enjoy consistent performance from your machine.

Take a look at http://www.bamcarbide.com/1shx1cutdix21.html (about $16). I have several of their 1/4" compression bits. They are very sharp and have lasted much longer than I would have expected.

Scott, were you unhappy with Onsrud? Mine have lasted a long time and gave great cuts... Why not just buy one? Gary Beckswith (sp) is a distributer on this forum and has great service...

Jerry, I get tons of stuff at Hartville, and I like Whiteside bits. I'll have to see what they have next time I'm there.

Ron, you're right. I am happy with Onsrud bits, but they seem brittle. I break them in a minor crash whereas I don't break other stuff so easily. Or so it seems.
I got some 1/8" and 1/16" tapered ballnose from Gary and I am ecstatic about how well they've done. I got another bit from him, but I'm not sure if it was an endmill, I can't remember.
It's hard not to use Hartville Hardware, they have been wonderful to me and I get everything the next day. I don't know what kind of selection they have, but regardless, I'll keep wrecking Gary's tapered bits. They're as good as I can imagine it can get.
