View Full Version : Zeroing Issues

I am having some issues zeroing my machine. It is a BT48 Alpha with a basic router. It does have proximity switches and the zzero plate attachment.

When I try to use proximity switches to zero the table I get a message saying that I am on proximity switch and to use arrow keys to move off it and hit esc when clear. I have tried to move in every direction but I can't ever get the machine to zero the table. I did buy this used so I don't really even know where the switches are or how to check that they are good.

My other issue is with my zzero, I touch the plate to the bit as a test and inp 1 does light up, but when I do the c2 command the router bit touches the plate and I get a message that zeroing failed and am forced to quit.

What can I do to fix this and start using the machine? If anyone is in or near Boulder, CO I'd even pay for a days worth of help!

And last question, with a buddy is it possible to use a vacuum with the moving table? If not I may have a like new 10hp (<20hr use) regenerative blower coming up for sale!

Thank you to all that can help!

Tried the ur command but I still got the error message that I am on a proximity switch.

Also, when I go to select the machine after entering the ur command I never see a buddy listed. My table is a 48*48 so I just select the alpha 48*48, is that correct to do?

Thank you

Seems like I remember something about some versions of bots having normally (NO) open prox sensors and some having normally closed (NC). if you had the wrong version it would cause the issues you're having...

Is there anyway to tell what version I have/need?

The bot is from late 2008 and does have the upgraded board, confirmed thru shopbot.

Thank you!

try [VN] and change the input value of switch #1 (likely) to opposite what it is...
If that works whoo hoo!

SG

sorry... brain fart. likely #3 , # 1 should be the Z zero

I don't know if the unit values were the same for the BT as other Alphas... if distance movement is wrong we need to know why your particular machine is not showing up in the setup menu...

I do not believe you can start a 'zero routine' from the prox switches. You have to be off them a little. Also you will need to set in an offset to zero to from the prox swithches usally .5 inch in each direction to where you will be zeroed to.

Braden...
It appears that you have installed the settings for the incorrect model, ie PRT for PRS, etc. If you are not completely sure of which model you own, call ShopBot tech support and they can help you select the proper model and size for your machine.

Braden,

Even though the table is 48" x 48", the MOVEMENT range on this Buddy is nominally 48" x 24" (the x axis only moves 24"). Therefore you are setting the wrong model. You have a PRS standard BT48 model by the sounds of it. This may be part of the problem. Good luck!

I would think it would be

"PRS ShopBots" then "PRS_standard Tools" and then "ShopBot_PRS_BT48standard"

Or

"PRS ShopBots" then "PRS_alpha Tools" and then "ShopBot_PRS_BT48alpha" if it's an alpha model.

Since every one else missed the other question, YES you can use a vacuum hold down, simply use a flexible hose to connect the ports. Be sure to allow enough excess for movement but not to much to cause pinching. The smoother the hose the better, ridges provide air resistance just like on your dust collector.

Thank you to everyone for the help! This was a combination of everything suggested here as well as me not knowing what to look for!

The previous owner had a homemade table on the machine and when I put it back on the proximity switches were not getting triggered which led to a few of my issues.

Now that I have my zeros set I need to figure out what to do next lol

Thanks again for all the help
