I am cutting a sign. I set the sign to be .25 below surface... But how do i stop it from roughing out the whole 4 x4 sheet and stay inside the signs borders.

I am assuming from your description that you are referring to making a raised letter sign where the tool clears out 1/4" deep, leaving the letters 1/4" tall? Right?
If so, you need to select all the letters and a boundary vector that is clean, closed and envelops all the lettering to tell the software to machine between the selected vectors.

PS - Thanks for chilling out on the CAPS

That sucks about the dog - sorry to hear that & hope you get him back.
Yes I do laser scanning. Yes models can be setup to be sliced. No I do not have models for sale. The data produced from the models that I scan belongs to their respective owners. I fiercely protect their data & do not offer it for sale.
Since you never got the memo, TYPING IN CAPS ON THE NET = YELLING.
So...what's the story with the sign issue you posted - Did I answer your question?

yes you did answer my question and thanks... did not know that typing in caps was yelling . never used a computer till a few years back. tom with laserbuzz had to walk me through a lot with the computer and the laser. but now i can do most anything in corel, having trouble going from corel to aspire most functions like centering i keep trying to hit p to center lol ... retired from the navy in 03 tried to work for a company but the work force out here is lazy... so i decided to enjoy retirement and start a company of my own.. i have two lasers and a full wood shop.
i suspected the ones you did for clients would be off limits, but was hoping maybe you had done some just to sale.. like a scaled down version of the statue of liberty etc...
you should consider doing some of those for general sale... need to set up a time to call again... let me know.

Hey Eugene. Hope your feeling better soon. Sorry to hear about your dog and hope you find him soon. I have my faithful companion right behind me and I would be lost without her as well. Take Care and good luck......with the sign too. :)

There is a special place in hell for people who steal dogs...
No - sorry no give-away files 'laying around'. I considered selling files in the past, but it didn't not make economic sense for me. When you factor in the requirement to know where the parts originated from and that the parts are copyright-free, it becomes a costly hassle that I don't feel like dealing with.
If you need a reproduction of a clay sculpture that you did, a hand-carved piece or antique architectural millwork - I'm your guy. Otherwise, you can get files from VectorArt3D, TurboSquid or a number of other sellers online or have files custom created for your specific application. When it comes to these types of models, you certainly get what you pay for.

was not wanting give away files... thought you might have some scanned in that you did for fun that you would sale. files like what you do and what vector art does takes to many hours to do just to give away...
hope there is a special place for them... but being a christian. i have already prayed to god to forgive them.. and to soften their heart so that they will bring him back to me.
i have asked for files before.. mostly to see how they did things and to learn from.. but the ones so far up to the signs are 1d or 2d not sure which.. have been my own designs on kitchen items.. got tired of the cnc setting around doing nothing but for a few times a year.. plus the economy is bad and we have cut back to three days a week work... wanting it back up... look at my pictures you will see some of the things i make. i have had several of vector arts work for years, only used three or four of them. one was in a apple cutting board ( an apple. ) one coat rack of a deer scene and another coat rack with a scene not sure which..
now hopefully i can use the collection of vector arts that i have in the sign part of the company..never worked in foam, can finish wood with the best of them... i am the type of person that will only put out the best.. very critical of myself and my work. my wife goes through the scrap pile and pulls out designs that i think are not worth making for sale. and talks me into producing them... most sale.. good, just did not like the looks and she did.

I just told Lisa about Scruffy, Eugene. She can't believe it either. Our prayers are with you, brother.
You have lots of 3d models, you should stay busy for a good while without needing any more. There's a video at Vectric and in your videos that shows how to chop up models, move pieces and adjust them. Sometimes you might need to do that to make your models work in your signage, and it makes them a lot more versatile.
Here's the video on dividing components. (http://www.vectric.com/WebSite/Vectric/support/aspire/aspire_tutorials.htm) it's #5 in the list at that page. Watch all those videos, they'll really help a LOT!!! :)
I'll try to give you a call tomorrow and catch up with ya. Hopefully Scruffy will be home by then.

there are some free sliced models over at the phlatforum http://phlatforum.com. They are released under the GPL and you can use them as you see fit. There is a chess pawn piece I know of that is 3d sliced. They are all modeled in sketchup.
