IO had the fan go out on my hsd spindle in about the normal time frame replaced it with the actual same brand and in a couple of moths that one burned out I smelled burned electrical and it was dead. Well that was a first I replaced it and it has been a month or so ans this one is stopping and starting. Two bad fans seems unusual to me could it be a power issue?

Yes it most certainly could be...Sounds like the 24v PS in the control box is flaking out. First check the connections. Then test the output. There may be no way of demonstrating a failure on that unit, so it might make the most sense to buy a spare from SB.

I just had the same issue with the fans on my HSD spindle (but i never got any burning electrical smell). What should I be trying to check on the control board?

And does anyone have a good source for buying the Papst 8314 fan?
