The Vector Art™ series has several... however it's just as easy to create your own after being inspired by seeing others.

Thanks Steve.. I let dad look at those... he is wanting me to make a sign for his church.. out of mdo... Those at vector art are nice but I can not convert them to a line vector that I can just cut the profile... The youth group is going to paint it... i just need to cut it our of mdo... what they want has like a oval in the middle at the top with the top of the oval removed... I know there must be someplace to purchase a whole series of sign outlines.

No... I haven't used Corel since version 3 .dxf or .crv works for me.

Gene,

If you can draw it in Corel, simply draw half of it and do a "Flip Copy." That will give you your symmetrical shape.

Eugene, you can use any of those 3d signs that you have and make an outline SUPER easy.
Just import it into your project, select it, hit the modeling tab, and click the button that says "create vector boundary from selected component".
That will give you the outline of the sign you're after, then just delete the model and that outline will stay. You can make a profile toolpath and bang, done.

Scott did not know that. Just drew it in corel exported it and sent it to steve to look at.. Ron that is sort of what I did... My dad and wife both say I am to hard and picky on myself...when I am designing or making items... I have thrown things away only to have one or both of them get it out and ask me what is wrong with it.
I am retired military, and I am a stickler to rules and quality..
quality is more important to me the quanity....

Gene,

I know what you mean - I'm sure we are all our own worst critics :p
I've done the same, and had them retrieved - sometimes, that makes them a free gift for whoever drags it out of the scrap bin...

I wish my wife would look at that way... instead both her and dad give me a long lecture. Most of the time I end up Putting it into production... I guess that is why my catalog is now over 21 single typed pages...currently we have over 300 items that we wholesale, and ship to 15 states. The majority of our customers have gift shops.. I normally do not do one's and two sees. but with the economy down and no one within 150 miles of my shop making 3d signs I decided to go for it.

one thing I have learned while learning to make signs, no matter how big your dust collection system is,, the blue foam dust goes everywhere... I have a jds cyclone system that has a 55 gallon drum for the waste and a 5 foot filter attached... but some how the blue foam dust escapes its pull.
my nephew came into the shop this morning,,, he asked his mother if i had ground up a smurf... lol...
over the blue dust everywhere.'

Mr. Sloan Just looked at your web site... supper nice... how in the world can you afford the wine barrels and be able to make money with them... I live in burbon country... these jokers want $500.00 for a empty barrel, and 200.00 for the tops.. had a customer want a chess board made out of one... till they found out how much that the barrel cost. I ended up gluing up some oak cutting it round and putting a tapered edge on it, then taking a torch and burning the back side some...

You're using the blue foam as practice material, right? Great stuff for trying out new stuff. However, as a sign material...it's pretty lame. Unless you are making large signs or letters that will be 50' in the air - don't waste your time. Seems like a good idea because it's cheap...it's a nightmare to make it look better than a painted concrete block wall. You'll see...If just for fun & for a friend, you should have chosen the pink stuff. What are friends for? :D

Gene,

I live in the Napa Valley. :D The wineries cycle through barrels regularly, and are available for as little as $15-$30 each. The biggest issue with doing 2.5D carvings in the heads are that they are doweled, which necessitates careful placement and depth, or sometimes replacement slats.

My website is way out of date - I really need to update it to show more of what I'm really doing, now. I still do the occasional plaque/sign, but am focusing more on bigger jobs for the wineries and casinos in the area.

I'm also working on designs for several items using the staves for furniture and accessory wine oriented items.

The pink stuff is the same as the blue stuff and costs the same...just pink. If you're paying 4 bills for that...your sis is gaining on you :D

If it's for a friend, you have to make it pink. Never miss a chance to break 'em when it comes to good friends. :p

If you incorporate some of the suggestions you received here I think you're well your way... something I might (and have done) is to lightly outline the text and artwork with a V-bit to guide the youth group painters.

I agree with the worst critic thing. I have had them pull stuff out and ask me what is wrong with it. Couldn't remember or find the problem myself.
