If anyone is interested I'd like to offer a get-together at my shop/home on Friday evening, August 24 after the day's IWF activities simmer down. Similar to what we did four years ago, but maybe with a little less food. Just a chance to talk shop for a little while and check out what I've been working on since the last time. I am about 20-30 minutes from the IWF and 5 minutes from the Chamblee MARTA station.

Reply or send me an e-mail if you would like to attend, and if there is enough interest I'll work out the details.

I can't say if I can make it yet or not. I will be at the IWF but it may be Saturday. I'll check back once I know more.

Hope to see some of you guys there.

Is there a chance to post a little map of something major in Atlanta, to your place?

I am not sure if we are renting a car or not. I'd like to make it but can't say yet.

Or maybe your address, so I can punch it into the map maker, from our hotel to your place.

Thanks,
Andrew

I would prefer not to post my address on a public forum (even though I know it's not too hard to find by Googling the name of my business.) But basically we are 10 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, just inside I-285 off of Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. There is a MARTA station about 5 minutes from the house. You could take MARTA to the Chamblee station and carpool or take a cab to the house. I can run folks back to the MARTA station afterwards, but the rest of my family will out of town so I won't be able to arrange for pick-ups from the station before or during.

I will be able to take 3 or 4 people from the IWF to the house after the show on Friday.

PM or e-mail me for my address or to ask for a ride.

Sounds good, I hope to see you both there - er, here.

Vectric has graciously offered to treat us to pizza and wings, so don't stop for dinner on the way over.

I've also invited members of the CMA (Cabinet Makers Assn) and Cabinet Vision forums. Could be an interesting mix of experience and viewpoints.

I will most likely be able to come Friday evening. As I've said before I don't have a Bot yet but took David's class last year and dream of the day. Would be nice to put some faces with post names.

Well, our trip to Atlanta is in jeopardy :(

We had to pull our son from daycare Friday and today, due to him having a fever. Today, my wife (who is an emerg doc) took him to her office and checked him out. He has an ear infection in both ears and probably cannot fly this Wednesday (we were supposed to fly out of here eary Wed morning).

Having planned this trip 4 months ago, and having to cancel two days before REALLY is disappointing. But, there isn't much that can be done.

Unless a miracle occurs, it doesnt look like I'll be meeting any of you guys this year..

Well Jack,
I got my miracle, but I am sorry to say Joseph's still sick. My wife spent all night on the telephone, switching some flights, and talking to her mom. She lives in Toronto, about 8 hrs drive south. We got he mom a flight up here tomorrow night, and she's going to stay here at our place with Joseph. I really wish he could come with us, but it will also be nice to still get to go, and attend the show.

I hate to say it, but thank God for mother in law's! :)

Actually I think it's Mother's in Law, but yes they can come in handy in a pinch. Sorry to hear about your son, ear infections are pretty common and rarely come at convenient times. Glad to hear you will be able to make the trip, it will likely be an easier trip without the youngster to take care of.

Andrew flying without Joseph I reckon was 110% the right choice. I lost 90% hearing in one ear last year by ignoring that very well known medical advice when I had an infection in one ear. The weird bit is you lose all balance. But your brain is a clever gadget and after about 6 months the other ear takes over and you get your balance back. Needless to say I aint flying no more cos I love music! Chrissy and I would kill to be going to Atlanta! Got appendix pains from laughing at Jacks "religious" post!

Bob, I thought Atlanta from Timmins was far enough, but it is just a 4 hour flight(2 from our home to Toronto and another two to Atlanta) but you woud have a whole day fom Australia right?

Today we just walked around the city and relaxed.. Tomorrow I'm checking out the show.

I actually passed a few shopbot guys (their shirts gave them away) near our hotel, which is near the exhibition centre. Felt like saying hello. But I will wait until tomorrow. :)

Guys,

Were we going to meet somewhere Friday around lunch? I'm still not sure I can make the evening meeting with kids, dogs, horses, goats... we kind of have to get back.

I'd love to meet up somewhere during lunch though, say around 1PM for a late lunch, maybe some crowds will be thinner.

I'll be there Friday.

You can bring the kids and the dogs but I have to draw the line at the horses and the goats.

Well... they are fainting goats so if you just yell at them every few minutes they just lay there. :D

See you tomorrow at the show.

Thanks Paul, we had a nice group of about 18 or 20, mostly ShopBot related but a few from the Cabinet Makers Association.

Thanks again to James, Brian and Vectric for the pizza and refreshments.
