I waited 3 months from when my old machine took a **** to get the PRT. Then i waited 6 months before i finished building a controller. Then waited three to get a router mount(made my own temp mount out of jatoba and u bolts) Now i'm either waiting for customers to get back to me with the right info, materials or the next job.
Regards
Randy
P.S. - Not married, wont do that again. Wont have to wait for that. :p

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting.......
I hate waiting.
Stop waiting. Start learning the software. Read up on different hold down methods, because that is the hardest job with all of this. Start learning to 'think in CNC'.

Hope fully the truck that brings your bot will not be like the one that brought my shop bot... I asked for a lift gated truck... They put the shop bot on a truck that the lift gate did not work... Plus they sent the smallest truck they had.. TheY wedged the shop bot in.
I ended up having to go rent a rollback to pull it out onto the rollback then have the rollback unload it at my shop. Full day just getting it unloaded...
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE SHOP BOT PAID FOR THE ROLLBACK.

I am married, and I got a good one, she is ready to go before I am, and she is more excited about the bot than I am.
I am watching tutorials until my eyeballs pop out, tutorials I can get spot on, I have a creativity problem
I had the bot shipped to the Yellow Freight Terminal in Little Rock, I am just going to pull up with my trailer and have them fork it on there, then back up to my shop door and uncrate it there.
I have a small machine, 24x48 that I built, and in the last 2 years, the only bits I have broken were because I did not raise the Z before sending the machine home.
Sleepy now, going to go to bed, the mermaid show is on discovery, a little too out there for me.

While waiting for mine I probably asked a couple hundred questions and got answers for them, however after i got it and started playing, many of the answers to those questions were self evident. However i'm glad i asked alot of questions, many of which I thought i knew and was corrected before i screwed something up or confirmed I was right in my assumptions.
In all those questions I only had one D-bag say "figure it out for yourself!" and everyone else helped me tremendously so don't be afraid to ask questions.:)

David- it seems forever, but they show up pretty quickly actually considering that each one is put together on a per-order basis. Imagine ordering a car that way!
Which Bot did you order?
And Brady's advice is right on. Download the software, and get started. You have a lot to learn even if you are an old hand at CNC. Go through the SB3 program and see what all it does, check out partworks etc.
As time passes, you will notice a few people like Brady are very experienced and offer high quality advice. Read all of his posts, you will learn things you may not realize were relevant to you. As time passes you will find several other members of the forum who give excellent advise. Start reading all of their posts also.
And as good as the forum is, the folks at SB are there to make sure your experience is as good as those of us on here have had. First rate!
I expect you will have even more questions soon. Expect answers. Be sure to say what machine you have when you post the question, it really helps give the correct answer!
Good luck.. take pictures, and post em!
Welcome-
D

Don't let anxiousness get the better of you once it arrives as mine did today. I was lifting the gantry and attached Z card rom a low trailer up onto a dock when it rolled backward and came down on my head. The corner of the Z car is indeed sharp and a 5' PRS gantry is indeed heavy. I'm now anxious to get out of this hospital bed but with not rush things with the 'bot again.:o

Make friends with your local hardware store. My shopbot also arrived at my house without a liftgate. Shopbot refunded the extra money we paid
but what saved me is that I own a good size trailer and are good friends with my local hardware shop that owns a forklift. They lifted the crate onto my trailer so I could roll the trailer in the garage and lock it up!!
Seriously, there is plenty of software to learn!

Here is a tip so as not to emulate Gerald's experience. I guess it helps to have a hard head huh Gerald?
When trying to lift your gantry onto the table because i was working alone first thing you do is attach your mechanical stops on the ends of your rails to keep it from rolling off.
Then i used a cumalong attached to the ceiling rafter to lift it up and also tightened up the slack enough to take most of the weight off so i could lift it onto the track in the front then the back. It kept it from going too far on me at any one time.

I borrowed an engine hoist to manhandle the PRT. It was placed over and around my trailer (5x8) and upside down. Towed it strapped down 150 miles. Lifted one end and put it on horses. Then the other and pulled the trailer out. To fit in the shop it needed to be on it's side. Rolled it over with the lift and set it on dollies. From there it was pushed into the back of the shop then rolled over on it's legs. Then the gantry was brought in and again the lift was used to place it.

Dana, I ordered my new MINI in March, was told 6 to 8 weeks. It was made to order in Great Britain, shipped across the ocean by boat, made it through customs and to the dealer - and was ready for me to drive it home exactly 7 weeks later. There are companies out there that have their act together.
