Today was cutting a small cabinet job and noticed that the cooling fan had quit working. I usually keep an eye out for this but I really don't know how long I cut with it not working. Best case 6 sheet 3/4" melamine, worst case ??? When I noticed the problem the spindle was very warm to the touch but I could hold on to it. Wanting to finish the last sheet I started blowing compressed air on the fan to keep it turning/cooling. Somehow the fan restarted on its own.

How do I know if I have done any bearing damage and what would cause this fan to start and stop during the production cycle.

You should be fine. The spindle has a thermister built into it that will shut the power down from the VFD to the spindle if it gets too hot.

I would keep an eye on the 24v power supply in the control box to make sure it isn't going bad - this is what supplies the spindle fan it's power.
