Wonder if you can read this with your smart phone and tell me what it says?

I've been contemplating buying an Ipad/Iphone and I just sold my Legacy Ornamental mill to a guy in Australia. I'm using the shopbot to cut the box i'm crating it up in. So I can't read that yet but I might have said it called me a BAD word..!!

FYI: The QR code.. beware ..

Conceptually a QR code can contain anything at all. There is a "pseudo standard" for encoding a web address, but the standard is not publicly available.

In fact the coding of the QR code is not publicly available makes it ripe for abuse. [Kind of like email, cookies, LSO (long term storage objects) etc.]

What companies are doing, is creating these cute "give us your website address and we will give you a free QR code" you can post all over the place. What are they actually doing?

You send them "www.xyz.com" as your company website. They create a QR code that refers to THEIR site:

www.trackingcompany.com/redirect_to/www_xyz_com

So when your client uses their phone to photograph "your" QR code, it goes to trackingcompany, then tracking company loads a hidden payload onto the customers computer, then sends a re-direct command to the clients browser. The client only sees that it went to your website.. but beware, its now reporting to tracking company. What a violation of the customers trust.

I don't recommend using QR codes until the spec is made publicly available. Then the scamming can be controlled. As it is, we have no way to be certain.

Isn't it nice what we have, as a society, done to ourselves? Leeches at every turn...

I saw something on tv where people were complaining about their privacy being invaded yet they showed those same people where on their own facebook pages they were giving out way more info....

I kind of go by the old saying..."don't put anything in writing you don't want used against you"...

I glad we have computer guys like Dana to give us the good details. I would never know about that info...

I believe they have an app where you can scan item barcodes in the grocery store to keep track of what you are spending....

This is what those 'Club Cards' are all about..."Do you have our club card?" No - just give me the discount straight up. Most never realize how cheaply they give away their privacy & cashiers are not even aware of the true purpose of these cards.

...and don't get me started on FacePlace...people are morons with that thing. Where's the "Don't Like" button?
