PRT standard upgrade to Alpha

I am thinking of buying a used prt standard then before even setting it up, buying the parts to upgrade to an alpha with a 2.2 hp spindle. My question is, is this a good idea? From other posts the consensus seems to be, no. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Just my humble opinion.

I bought the standard, saved me a few bucks and it will let me get into the business relativley cheap. I got the router as I do not have the requsite power for a spindle. If you get the bot, you like it, then upgrade. Dianne over at shopbot is extremley well versed in taking your credit card information.
