Have a BT48 Buddy - looking to find out how to turn the dust extractor on when the spindle turns on. Would like to use 24 volt if possible. Any clues anyone please?

There used to be a circuit in the manual that you could build using parts from local electronics store. Not sure if it's in latest versions or not.
Shopbot also sells a relay board that can be used to drive dc and ac outputs.
Another option is Opto 22 products such as the ODC5 and a pb4 circuit board to put them in. These are often available on ebay.
Here is an auction for the PB4 mounting board with some odc5's installed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Opto-22-PB4-4-Channel-I-O-Module-Rack-With-4-ODC5R-Reed-Relay-Output-Module-/130638570410?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e6aaa63aa
Note you can also get ac output modules. Opto 22 site is: http://www.opto22.com/site/pr_selector.aspx?cid=4&qs=100310071001

Another option is that I have my dust collector able to turn on with a X10 controller (www.smarthome.com (http://www.smarthome.com)). My 220V dust collector has a 220V appliance module. I have key fobs and a 4 button mini control panel in a couple of places. When I want to turn on the dust collector, I hit ON for switch 1 and up it comes and switch 1 off to turn it off.
I have an optional relay board in my dust collector
X10 make a switch that has 2 wires coming out. When the wires make contact, it sends the message to the module and powers it up and when you break the connection, it shuts it down.
The relay board has normally open + close positions so I assume it would
close the circuit, then simply need to use the SO command to power the
dust collector on and off...
I will conitnue to play!

On my buddy I needed a relay to close and start my spindle. I built the circuit shown on the shopbot web site and it operated perfectly first try.
Later I wanted to start the dust collector at the same time. The relay I used had a set of contacts available. I bought an air conditioning contact or for ten bucks on eBay. I have a 24v transformer in series with the contacts, transformer and contact or.
Works great!
