Lots of tool pathing on this one. 36" diameter 3/8" hardwood and 3/8" birch ply backer. Woods: Ash, Walnut, Butternut, Blood wood, Maple, Mahogany, Purple Heart and Cherry. Pocket strategy with vcarve inlay on the letters. Always wanted to make one, took 2yrs to get to it. Now I need move the bot to the floor, remove the legs and make the cut into the floor. Seriously, I will make a ply template, screw down and step cut the floor with a flush trim bit. The floor install was planned with this in mind no fasteners to contend with. I think I will put a slight round over on the Medallion and the floor before the glue down to eliminate any snagging.

Very nice Steve. Did you skin the small rope sections? By the way you can cut the floor easier if you flip the bot over. Won't have to cut off legs.

Beautiful! Excellent work!

I have a customer that has been thinking about having a compass rose done someday. Kind of looking forward to the challenge, I'll have to put a bug in his ear (picture in his eye). ;)

both of those pieces are absolutely fantastic. How much fiddling did you have to do to get such nice fit? That looks great!:D

Jack - desperately waiting for a report on your trip! Did you have enough videos or did you fall asleep and watch none?

Really nice work.

I installed one years ago in a penthouse entrance that was facing ENE but of course I lined up the rose geographic. The owner came in and wanted to know why the main points didn't line up with the room. I explained why and showed him how it aligned with the calibrated compass I used. He told me he just didn't like it looking "off" like that and made me line it up with the room. What a jerk. This was in Seattle and it overlooked Lake Union. Everyone who walked in noticed it was off North right away!

Holy Smokes! I love this place. In Jan. I purchased a used bot off of a forum member as an addition to my hobby and have enjoyed "playing" with it. I have recently decided to try to make some money with it instead of personal and friend projects. I manage to impress my friends. Then, I look at most of the things everyone here makes and some I think to myself "I think I can do that" then there are things like this that make me realize as much as I think I know... I'm soooo far away. I'm like a woodworking baby that is still in the NIC unit. :) AWESOME work!! Thank you for inspiring me and keeping me humble about my knowledge.
