I have been looking for a small shopbot and have talked to a couple
nice gentlemen with machines I would love but nothing has worked
out so far. Is there a good way to safely (for both parties) arrange
payment? It seems that machines go fast and if they are within 500-700
miles I would drive to the owners and make arrangements. Anyone with
any advise. Thanks Gene

I drove from Cape May N.J. to Orlando to get mine. I had a verbal agreement over the phone with the seller. I just jumped in the truck with cash in hand and headed south. Of course it was February and an ice storm was on it's way so heading south was a no brainier. Just told my wife I had to have it and I would be back in a week or so and don't forget to feed my shop dog!:) That was 2 years ago. And by the way, just in case your wondering my wife finally started talking to me again a few weeks back, but the dog is doing just fine. I consider it a push!:D I'm sure you'll find that most Shopboters are people of their word and an agreement over the phone should be all thats needed.

you could send a deposit via paypal and take cash with you.
It's not a big deal for you to ask the seller to take some pictures and send or even take some video of it in operation and post it to youtube.
Once you know you know there is a machine that exists (not some scammer) then arrange to send a deposit and pay the balance upon arrival. I wouldn't pay it in full up front i don't care who it is....:D

A Cashier's Check is the safest and most convenient way to do it. Cash can get lost or stolen, and sorry to say - you never can tell who you are dealing with out there in the world - which means, like yourself enough to think about your own safety.

I would suppose you would want to see any machine in operation before you purchase it. Which might mean two trips unless you take it apart on the spot or load it in one piece.
Do you have your ShopBot transportion figured out ? Having followed the forum for a number of years, I have yet to read of anyone who mis-represented their machine in an effort to sell it.
I would suppose a cashiers check would be best.
