We trapped 2 masked bandits outside our home! They were none too happy. Decided they'd learned their lesson, didn't shoot them or call the police.
Take a look! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxNn07xZdlk

Before i clicked on the video i KNEW what it was when you said masked bandits since i have them visit my garbage can every nite. Rather then have them dump my can over and tear thru everything and leave a mess i have a old litter pan i just dump the "consumables" in. They leave my can alone and on a couple occassions he has taken chicken from my hand.
I named him "Lone Ranger" for obvious reasons:D
I could have swore when he turned to leave i heard him say
"Hi-ho Silver...Awaaay!!!

Had the same problem Jack. I just bought one of those commercial type trash cans with the attached lid from Lowes and all is well again. For some reason they just cant crack the code.

I wish we only had coons
It's the bears that present the challenge
Finally made a garbage container out of a concrete well ring and a round steel lid with a hasp and lock
I buried it 12" into the ground
The next day the bear had pulled it out of the ground and rolled it 50ft away
I then poured concrete into a hole and set the well ring into it
That has stumped them.

LOL. Tonight I had a visit from a skunk. My neihbor was just pulling up around back of my shop with his combine and scared it off just as i was coming around the corner to meet him. If it was minute earlier i would have met the little stinker face to face.

I made a noisemaker for the bear that would get in our garbage.
I took a motion detector and wired a air solenoid set up with a small compressor.
The air Blasts through an old bicycle tube and sounds like a whoopee cushion on steroids. It still also turns on a spotlight.
The motion detector has a test setting so it only stays on for ten seconds my brother in law tripped it and must have jumped 5 feet.
Since it has been set up the bear has not touched the trash again.

yeah but what kind of looks does your wife give you if that thing goes off in the middle of the night while in bed? Does she think it's you making that noise?

LOL.
When I check the trap and there is a bear sitting inside I'll be sure to post the video... and call you guys to come set him free. :D
We've had a wide array of visitors but the fox is the one that has figured out how to get at the chickens and started ignoring us, goats, horse dogs etc...
We had a skunk visit a while back, got Henry, had to bathe him. I took a video of the bath but never posted it. That STANK like you can only believe if you've smelled it before.
