Hey all. I *think* this is my first post. Maybe some one has some insight on this. Got a PRS Standard, 9648. Purchased about 3 months ago. She's square, and cuts just fine on the X and Z side, but that doesn't mean anything without the Y... The issue I'm having is with the Y axis. There's a little back and forth play in the pinion on the gear, even with the set screws snugged all the way up.
Anyone have any idea how to resolve this problem? You can imagine the problems it causes, especially trying to cut small circles and such. I use my machine for clockmaking, so accuracy is important!!!

Loosen the 3/16" hex bolts that hold the Y motor onto the YZ car. Then apply force to engage the pinion into the rack, while gently wiggling it side to side. With your other hand, snug the hex bolts, turn on the control box and test it for backlash. If you still hear/feel it, do it again until you get it where it should be.

The other thing you want to inspect is 2 lower v-roller wheels on the YZ car. Remove the covers/wipers over the wheels and make sure that the wheels are just barely snug against the bottom V-rail. You don't want them too loose or too tight. The flat steel tool in your tool kit will hold the back side of the wheel in place while you adjust with the 8mm hex wrench.
