Need some help guys.

My older XP machine's hard drive took a dump so I am using my newer Windows 7 machine to drive my Bot for the time being. I have a 2005 vintage PRT Alpha with a serial to USB connection.

Installed version 3.6.44 for control software and can't seem to get the control software to connect to the control box. I had some issues when I first hooked my XP machine up to the bot and had to do some driver installs, but I can't seem to get this Windows 7 machine to work.

Can someone please give some advise?

Thanks in advance.

Zach....
The SB3 software does not install USB to serial drivers. You must have a USB/serial converter that is supported by your Win7 version AND install the drivers for it.

I was in the same boat as you this spring. I have the same bot as you. My shop was hit by lightning and killed my xp computer, the serial cable and the serial board in the box. I was able to put another xp computer on and tried a new cable and still no luck. I talked with the the guys at Shopbot and trouble shot the serial board not working. I ordered the upgrade replacement board (cant remember how much it was right now) but it was easy to install. Pluged things in, it turned right on and reconized the software. I was up and running just like that. Hope that helps

How can I tell if my USB/serial converter is supported by Windows 7? If my USB/serial converter worked with XP can I just update the driver? If so where can I get the driver?

Thanks.

Zach,

If you have one of these, you can get the driver here...

http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GUC232A#display

...or it could also be on your computer in this folder...

C:\Program Files (x86)\ShopBot\ShopBot 3\Drivers\GUC232A_Win7
