Anyone have any experience with staining concrete? I want to go with a dark grey to black stain. I like the idea of water based, but it looks like acid based might be more durable? Any suggestions or warnings?

Check with Home Depot on colors.
If you are looking for durability, then epoxy floor covering is the way
to go.
1 part Epoxy is $4 / gallon more
use caution , a painted or epoxy coated floor and some saw dust makes for a slick floor

Burke stain for outside, no slipping, concrete paint from home depot, add a handful of sand per gallon no slipping, in a shop with power tools DuPont 11 40 if they still make it, you never want to be grounded.
Painting any concrete will stop water from absorbing if this is your wish, add sand to any paint where people walk, you do not want a Jehovah Witness slipping when they come to your door
