Hey guys,

I've been playing with a simple mover.rb animation plugin. It's real simple to use compared to other things out there. You do need a program to record the animation off of your screen though.

Wow, that's very neat. Bound to give some of us ideas. Are you a Sketchup or Sketchup Pro user?

Thanks Gerry,

I'm a Pro user and have been working with sketchup for over 6 years. I've even landed a job because of it.

P.S.

You don't need the pro version to do this at all.

That's very well done Randy - been considering going that route animation-style wise for my own site for a while now instead of just having things spin around... nice work!

Randy very cool. That would be especially neat for Jon and his proof of concept videos for his products although i'm wondering if making these types of files and animations isn't more work then making the actual files themselves:eek:

Thanks Guys,

Jack, it does take a bit longer to do the animation. About an hour each.

Jon, Seeing the opportunity to add some of my patterns for cnc to your site lead me to play with it.

Randy

Thanks for the mention Randy - I'd like to introduce a few different animation styles on my site - just been so busy adding projects that I've had little time to do much else. Always far more to do than I have time to get done in a day. As for animations at my end, rendering at 1080HD usually takes a few days to render (24 hour days) though like the plasma dragonfly, that took almost two weeks (that last part flying over water took 75% of this time).

http://cncking.com/plasma-cutter/it-s-alive/dragonfly.html (scroll down for animation)

As mentioned previously, I use Autodesk 3D Studio Max - but feel free to give blender a try - it's free blender.org and you'll have lots more control though that software's UI is horrible (which is why I prefer to pay for Max over the free Blender).

I think we need a 12 day week, not 7!

Jon,
unless things have changed (since i haven't done CGI animation 3D in years) you should have been able to use the water as background footage, then only had to use the dragonfly as a black and white mask overtop of the water and then only had to render the dragonfly which would be a far smaller render then the whole frame. Also there should be a setting for what we used to call "tweening" (the amount of frames to get from A to B, or in your case a wingflap)
because your brain actually fills in that info even though it doesn't see every frame of info.
But as i say i could be way behind the curve here. :D Either way it's cool man!

Yep, was hoping for a reflection in the water which can't be masked... just didn't work-out as I expected and had the computer crash a few times in the process which I found-out afterwards changed the environmental variables each time - hence the flickering etc. Next time doing it the easy way!

Here is the thing you need to keep in mind...even though YOU might know their should be a reflection or shadow on the water (and i think Lightwave has a setting for reflectivity, luminosity, shadow, ect) the average shmuck looking at that won't notice it muchless care!

If they want to buy that file, they won't be discouraged because it doesn't have the fancy realistic animation there. You are too much of a perfectionist about some things. I think they call that OCD?:D

Besides your dragonfly can't really fly......can it?
good job
