Worth a try at asking......

Looking for sheet material that is strong, flat (stays flat) that won't distort and is light. I've heard that honeycomb based material will do the trick, whether aluminium or some other material. Anyone know of such a sheet material? Would need sheeting that is at least 8' x 6" in size.

I think you want one of these (http://www.laminatorsinc.com/signs/products) variants. The corrugated core makes them very light, and if you haven't held this stuff in your hand, be prepared to be amazed by how stiff a piece is.

Mike I'm actually needing it to make up big projection screens that will be joined together for a panoramic scenery display.....200 deg x 50 deg FOV. Using the shopbot to make the fixtures but the screen material had me worried as it needs to be dead flat and strong but yet light in weight.

Brady...excellent link....going to check it out as it looks like what I need?....just hope there is a distributor here.....(and it comes in white:)
