Hi, I have had problemes every now and then where Partworks would freeze when I try to open a simple autocad file I created (2d only stuff).

I use Acad 2013 but I usually save in 2007 dwg format. I tried other formats (ex: 2000 dxf) without success. Is there some magic trick out there ?

Tia for any help.
Marc

Attached ZIP in EPS format. IMPORT (not open) in PartWorks/VCP/Aspire.

Check scale...mm vs inch.

It opened fine with an older version of Aspire, but I've had issues importing dxf/dwg files with text annotations - Autocad seems to use single line fonts that are not supported, which can cause problems, I just don't export the text layers...

Hi Brady and Ron.

I was able to open it after deleting all my annotations (mleaders, dims and simple text). Since Ron also came to that conclusion, I guess I'll investigate some more. I'll try to figure out whether some fonts seems to work better...

Thx also Brady for the file but I was looking for a definitive solution - I cannot expect someone else to convert files for me every time... :)

Ron, if I may ask, how do you «don't export the text layers» ? the way I work is : I draw in autocad and save my drawing (dwg) and then I try to open them in Partworks - there is no export operation going on ? am I missing something ?

tia.

Hi Marc,I actually use DraftSight and Alibre Design, not AutoCad, so there are probably differences. It looks like you annotations are on the "Dim" and "Notes" layers. I just turn those layers off and export the file. You may try simply turning those layers off and saving.I generally use the export command and select "Export selected entities," after turning off the unneeded layers and selecting the rest.Hope that makes sense!
