This is why the top of our assembly table is a 4'x8'x0.50" sheet of UHMWPE. 30 seconds with any kind of tool or even just a piece of wood and it's good as new again after a few years.

I think 5 clamps is enough!!

Well i just used 6...:) I hate to glue something up only to see a small crack where you didn't have enough pressure to close it after the glue dries!

Too much glue is sometimes a problem. Too little glue is always a problem.

Another reason to at least wipe the glue off with a wet
towel is because if you ran that piece of wood through a planer,
there would be chip marks in the sharp edge of the planer blade...
I use the red paper that you use under hardwood floor for my bench cover because it rarely bleeds through, its cheap and a couple of staples on the end of the bench will keep it in place.
I use for painting bench also...

I always tell new guys in the shop I would rather waste glue than wood.
here is my setup. I like to see the glue squeeze out and run a little.

I generally use wax paper to protect the clamps myself. I'd rather have a little too much glue to wipe up than not enough and it falls apart. As for clamps, "you can never have too many clamps".

Andrew can you pls tell me how to make Bob as tidy in his "playroom" as you are obviously in yours? But if your wife is the ckeaner-up dont answer. I once made the mistke of "tidying" up as a surprise and all he did was complain for months he couldn't find anything. Must be the difference between male and female logic.

Well I have to say I'm the tidy one.... I am always cleaning up after her at home... And she doesn't come to the shop often :)
I actually have OCD. If I don't keep things just so, I get very anxious to the point I get panic attacks and shortness of breath. Sometimes I wish I could just work and leave the mess for later, but cleaning up is a daily ritual and it seems to keep things in check!
It took me a while to get things under control in terms of not going "overboard" since at one time I use to do things that "didn't indeed doing"... But I have gotten a handle on that.
Yesterday morning I cleaned the shop, ready to get back to work tomorrow. I have so much work this year I am already stressing over deadlines and so forth. But it's a great problem to have!

Andrew if you came in my shop you would have a panic attack thats for sure.
I tend to have 5 projects and stuff everywhere drives my wife a little nuts but I don't put stuff in her area.
Wish I had a little more of a cleanup drive but its just not there.

The way it works it doesn't bother me unless its my space. Even in our house, it's only certain areas. But at work, I think since it is my space, it is the whole shop.
It's something few know about me.... strange but true :). Also makes me difficult to work for unless you get that EVERYTHING has to go back to its proper place after use, every time.
Andrew
Please DO NOT come to my shop. You would DIE. then i would have to get rid of another body. ( long story dont ask)
