We cut a fair amount of solid surface material and I have always used 3/8 compression routers. I have been given some advice to switch to a low helix style bit, which would give us a much better performance. In the Onsrud catalog they list a 3 flute up or down cut low helix and a upcut double sprial O flute bit in a low helix geometry. I am looking for anyone's experience with this style bit and if it would make that much difference in the quality of the cut.

I like the vortex 2 flute low helix upcut for acrylics. It gives a nice cut and removes the chaff so there is not any rewelding.

Definately an O flute. My bit of choice is a 3/16 or 1/4" single flute straight O flute as I have found spiral bits tend to make small parts "jump" a bit on the last pass cut-out.
