H All: I just tried out our new control computer build. Window Pro 7, 8GB Ram, Quad 4 Processor, no **** loaded, Virgin Computer. Ran eleven hour Aspire carve yesterday, no Comm Errors, problems, Etc. For the heck of it, I ran speed test. Was surprised to see that my speed test results were 67.1%. I know that 70% was acceptable minimum. Ant ideas on increasing speed test results, or should I not be so concerned.
Thanks Joe Karas

Joe...
1) Is the (provided) USB 2.0 hub connected between the computer and the controller card?

2) Is anything else plugged into that hub?

3) Have you tried other ports on the machine?

Out of interest, what are the make and model of the computer and the processor?

Hi Guys: I am going into the provided hub with one cable, and straight in with the other usb cable. I tried the other usb female inputs on computer, with no difference. I noticed the bot is running off port #3. Computer is self made from orders from New Egg. I can post specs in my next post. My son ordered a quad four processor which he said should be super efficient. My Ram is 8MB which should be great for 3D Carving. Bot carved for eleven hours yesterday, no comm issues etc. Just concerned about the speed check test?

Is the USB plug on the computer blue?

If it is then it is USB 3.

I checked and no, it's not a blue usb plug in. I made it clear to my son that the bot works with 2.0 USB ports, so that's what we ordered. There are 2 2.0 usb outlets/ports and 2 3.0 outlet/ports, and 4 outlet/ports my son refers to as generics?

Hey. I built one quite similar earlier this year and got low 70's for speed test. When I asked shopbot why this new faster better pc is getting lower comm test speeds than my old one they asked if everything was working fine. When I answered yes they told me not to worry. As long as you are getting good comms and the machine and computer are working at the speeds required or within parameters not to but so much worry into the low result with the comm test.
I listened to their advice and all is good. Aspire sure likes the quad core processor and 8 gigs of ram. :):)

Hey Glen: Thanks for the heads up. The guys from Shopbot Tech have told me if it not broken, then don't fix it. So I'm down with what your saying. Nice to hear that Aspire likes the Quad Core with 8 Gigs of Ram. I wanted to rid myself of any computer issues, and I think I did. I did two eleven and a half hour carvings over the weekend with dust collector on the entire time, no problems. In addition I have run bare copper wires both inside and outside of dust vac hose. Lastly, I drove 8' copper grounding rod, and ran bare copper wire to control box. Not to jinx myself, but I feel pretty comfortable about my present situation. The dreaded Comm Error Messages kept me from feeling confident in continual and lengthy file runs. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed. Thanks Joe:cool:

Is that computer just for controlling the 'bot or do you do design work on it as well?

I built this computer strictly as a controller for bot. However, I don't think I would be afraid to design on it as well. Has large hard drive, and 8 Gig of Ram. I think it would handle both. Joe:cool:
